“Basketball last year (2011-2012) was our first time ever doing unified sports,” Nora Boettcher, special education advisor, says. Boettcher has the pleasure of working with all of the unified sports athletes on the field and in the classroom.
“It’s not like I can see direct results in the classroom. I see it more globally, on a macro level.” The sports programs have allowed the kids a place to shine and compete together.
“Our students have built friendships and relationships outside the classroom,” Boettcher said. With the support of Perry faculty and students, the special education students have been able to become more open, social, and even competitive.
Special education achievements have skyrocketed with hard work and dedication.
