Definitely Not a Ghost

It is not a surprise, nor will it ever be, that the Call of Duty franchise is going downhill. But still, millions of people are willing to spend $60 of their hard earned money on a re-hash of what was brought to them a year before. Yes, Call of Duty is an annually released game usually created by either Infinity Ward or Treyarch, meaning they only have one year to think of, create, and publish a game title.

And that is where Call of Duty: Ghosts comes in. Every November, a new game is put on the market, with Ghosts being the most recent release as of the 5th. It is supposedly the first to the start of a new series similar to the Modern Warfare lineup. For most people, you either love or you hate COD. If you are one of the people who admired MW3, this game is most likely for you.

But, Ghosts isn’t all that terrible. The campaign, for example, starts strong and proceeds to keep its momentum going. Halfway through, though, you’ll find yourself wondering if you accidentally put the MW3 disk in your console.

And the multiplayer. Oh multiplayer. What would we ever do without you? That’s right, nothing, because the campaign is at max four hours long. But no one seems to really have the single player in mind when deciding to pick up a copy of COD. Multiplayer is where it’s at, and Infinity Ward did an exceptional job at executing a complex yet fun fps. The whole system of creating classes and character customization is revamped, which means players who like to have a wider selection of options will benefit in this series.

But these aren’t the only options for investing hours of your day to. There is also a different mode called “Extinction,” where players can fight in a group of four against aliens, similar to Black Ops’ “Zombies.” This means fans who bought COD Black Ops only for the “Zombies” mode will have a good reason to get Ghosts.

Overall, Ghosts is a better constructed version of the past few Call of Duty games all put together. It brings forth a similar atmosphere which is what Infinity Ward most likely expected to do, but the multiplayer will keep pulling you in, racking up hundreds of hours of your ‘free time.’

Like every year, people will complain that Call of Duty stays the same, but it is based on the  player’s opinion. It will either entertain or enervate the massive fan base of the Call of Duty series. If it’s not your thing, there’s always Battlefield 4, but you’re going to want to give Ghosts a try.
