Head coach Thomas Lennox has high hopes for the coming season. He looks forward to this year’s team which is “the strongest team in Perry history.” With a team of 16 players, six will be returning as varsity players, four of which are seniors.

Last season was very successful for the Pumas.

“We finished last year 9-5 and the 15th ranked team in the state;” says Lennox, “this was the first time being ranked in the Top 16.” Only graduating two players last year, most of the team will be returning to have another successful season.

Senior Jordan Yeager, currently first on the team, is confident about this season: “This is going to be the best season Perry has ever had.” Lennox shares the high hopes, “We have a great chance to be the first Perry tennis team ranked in the Top 10 in the state and want to compete for the state championship!”

Girls’ Tennis

Girls tennis will be returning this season with a strive to be better than last year. The girls ended last season 6-8, coming up 1/10th of a point short of making playoffs. Head coach Keith Castillo has high expectations for this years team, hoping to see major improvement.

With 4 returning starters, Castillo is excited to see seniors Laike Reader and Allie Shibel on the courts this season.

According to Castillo, Reader is “one of our best tennis doubles players.” Alongside Shibel, the girls are expected to lead a victorious team this season.

Expectations are set high, not only by Castillo, but the girls too. “We expect to win, doesn’t everyone” Readers says, “we also just want to grow closer as a family and be a better team.”

The girls began their season on Wed. February 24 Highland and will continue through the end of April. With many matches to go, the girls have just begun what they hope will be their best season yet.
