With the best finish in Perry tennis history, boys tennis proved themselves as a contender in state playoffs.To say the team finished their season strong would be an understatement. The team strived all year to meet the massive goal; a state championship. Their dedication finally paid off when Juniors Jordan Yeager and Kyle Vance clinched state playoffs for doubles progressing all the way to quarterfinals where they finally met their match and suffered a devastating loss to Brophy who went on to win state. Senior Samuel Lin also clinched a spot in the playoffs in singles. “I won my first round and I felt pretty good.” Lin shared. To accompany the teams success in the playoffs, the pumas also had a very successful season. “I am very proud of my team,” head coach Thomas Lennox says. “You must have good depth to get ranked so high.”  Hardwork and determination lead the pumas to an ending record of 9-5 giving them a rank of number 15 in the state making it Perrys best finish in division one.

Girls:

Girls tennis also completed their season Tuesday April 21, finishing with a record of 6-4. Varsity won their last regular season game 9-0 to Skyline completing the pumas season with a ranking of 17th in the state. “We worked really hard this year,” sophomore player Zoe Armbruster said. Juniors Allie Shibel and Laike Reader continued to state playoffs for doubles where they advanced to round two before being knocked out by Horizon High School. Senior Taylor Shin also advanced to state playoffs for singles where she dominated the first round against Ironwood then suffered a harsh ending against Hamilton. “My biggest improvement is my increasing motivation.” Shin shared. With the ending of a solid season, girls tennis looks forward to more success to come next year.
