StuGo takes the gold, with Olympics themed homecoming

STUGO lights up every hallway with The Fire Within, bringing the Rio Olympics directly to Perry

Transforming the once uninteresting and mundane Perry halls, our student government has put in countless hours to give us a memorable and exciting homecoming.

With little time to prepare, STUGO took on the monumental task of planning this year’s homecoming events around AIA’s strict football schedule.

“We put the pedal to the medal and started right as we got to school, and went straight to work.” Jackson Daniels, proud student body secretary informed us.

The week of homecoming is the busiest week of the year, for our student government.  “An average of fifteen hours at school a day and we have to miss all our classes on Friday and come in on Saturday too.”  (Makayla Palmer, secretary senior representative).

Through the process of elimination, the most important factor was decided: the 2016 homecoming theme.  The Fire Within, brings an encouraging and motivational air to the school.  Once the theme was identified, preparation for the assembly and spirit days were in full force.

Following a loose pattern every year, the spirit days are always an exciting build-up to the dance.  Twin day, workout day, tacky tourist day, Olympic colors day, and USA day were all cleverly chosen by the student body.  Sorting through ideas and finding the best fit, STUGO made every day count.

The homecoming assembly remains a mystery to all, but it’s undeniably heavily anticipated.  Many of the important decisions that would normally be made as a class in whole, were moved into smaller committees, because there wasn’t enough class time to discuss everything.  Five STUGO kids are in charge of the entire assembly, with the expectation to chose a special guest performer within budget, and schedule in the correct minutes each club has to perform.

“It’s been super stressful, but very fun and rewarding!”  Said Jillian Harris, Sophomore rep.

Excitement rings through the halls as students anticipate what STUGO has planned, for the 2016 homecoming dance and assembly.
