Infinite Campus has been around for several years, but with the new notifications one can be interactive with the grades.

In the midst of a digital generation, the school district is striving to be on the cutting-edge of technology with the new features on its online grade book — Infinite Campus.

The Infinite Campus app, which was first introduced to students and parents last fall, recently debuted a new feature that could either be helpful or a nuisance to students, teachers and parents in the CUSD community.

With an attempt to make parents more informed with their children’s grades, Infinite Campus launched a new notification program which allows students, as well as parents, to be in the loop with grades. On Oct. 31, the launch included notifications for changes in assignments, attendance and grades.

The new push notifications allow the parents or guardians to have a greater knowledge of their students’ whereabouts. However, the addition may be irritating due to its frequency.

According to Assistant Principal Heather Patterson, Infinite Campus “is another communication tool to let…parents and students know what’s going on [in the classroom].”

English teacher and parent of five Annette Bashford, views the additions in a positive light with the ability to achieve maximum student-parent engagement. “It gives parents the choice… to be fully engaged a hundred percent in their child’s day. I personally as a parent, do not do that with my children, but its nice that the parent has that option.”

Laura Varela, a sophomore and junior English teacher, sees the ways it can keep teachers aware of their students’ grades, “I think it also benefits teachers, because they will more readily see… who is on top of their grades and who is not.”

Whether the addition will help or hinder is dependent on one’s perspective, but the notifications are here to stay. Either way, the push notifications are here to stay allowing parents the choice to make parents and teachers more interactive with students’ grades.
